Middle Village resident injured during house fire day after firefighters extinguished flames that engulfed car in Rego Park: FDNY

The FDNY received a call just before 7:15 p.m. reporting a fire at the rear of a home at 61-12 81st St. just off Eliot Avenue. More than 20 units were dispatched to the location with 79 firefighters and EMS personnel to the block between 62nd Avenue and Eliot Avenue.

EMS transported one civilian to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The cause of the house fire is under investigation.

The home is just over a mile away from the scene of an unrelated car fire on Labor Day that sent a plume of black smoke over Rego Park and Elmhurst.

The FDNY received a call just after 1:30 p.m. reporting a vehicle fire on the Long Island Expressway at Queens Boulevard. The driver was traveling eastbound on the Expressway on the Queens Boulevard exit and pulled over after seeing smoke.

Responding FDNY units arrived to find the vehicle engulfed in flames. There were no injuries reported.

There was another car fire on Labor Day that caused much more damage during the early hours on Monday, Sept. 7.

The FDNY received a call just after 2:15 a.m. reporting a car fire up against a house at 108-48 Liverpool St. in Jamaica. Units arrived at the scene minutes later and found the car fire had extended into the house and up into the attic. A second alarm was transmitted bringing a total of 46 units with 141 firefighters and EMS personnel to the block between Arlington Terrace and 109th Avenue.

One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was transported by EMS to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center for treatment.

The fire was brought under control at just after 3:30 a.m. FDNY fire marshals will determine the cause.
