The FDNY received a 911 call at 12:03 p.m. and dispatched units to the scene. A rescue train responded to the scene and safely removed approximately 60 passengers from the M train, and then power was shut down to allow rescue crews to operate. The FDNY and NYPD Emergency Service Units removed the civilian from the tracks. EMS pronounced the person dead on the scene at 12:28. The gender of the deceased victim has not been determined, an NYPD spokesman said on Thursday afternoon.

Service along the E, F, M and R Lines was suspended for around an hour while the emergency teams removed the body from the track bed. Service was restored and running with delays in both directions, according to an MTA spokesperson.
No criminality is suspected and the investigation remains ongoing, the NYPD spokesman said.
