Healthfirst welcomes autumn with Elmhurst festival featuring cultural performances and community resources

The celebration featured a Lion dance performance, a traditional Chinese dance believed to bring good fortune, and healthy living activities for all ages such as crafting and gardening.

The event was sponsored by Northwell Health, NYC Health and Hospitals/Elmhurst, the Coalition of Asian-American IPA (CAIPA) and Rendr Care.

Health services provided at the event included Medicare guidance, informing older adults about coverage options, savings programs and benefits available to eligible older adults. 

A Chinese chive planting activity taught attendees about healthier cooking habits while connecting wellness education to cultural traditions.

A “Show Me the Sugar” activity, sponsored by Healthfirst, helped attendees identify sugars in beverages and encouraged healthy hydration choices.

Representatives from the Office of Queens Borough President Donovan Richards also spoke to attendees about local resources that support their everyday well-being. 

Healthfirst officials in attendance included Errol Pierre, chief growth officer, Stephanie Wu, vice president of state programs, and William Wang, assistant vice president of Asian market development.

“Healthfirst is dedicated to ensuring our community members have the right health plan that fits their specific healthcare needs, while also recognizing their cultural traditions,” Wang said. “The Mid-Autumn Celebration connects our neighbors in Queens with health resources while providing a venue where community members can connect and celebrate. We wish our members and their neighbors a wonderful holiday filled with good health and fortune.”

A spokesperson for Northwell Health said the event supported its goal of breaking down barriers to healthcare by bringing its care services and wellness resources directly to the community. The healthcare provider emphasized that by providing this support, it helps ensure every family has the support and access it needs to live healthier lives.
