Five people were injured and an Elmhurst family was displaced when a fast-moving fire tore through their home on Tuesday afternoon.

The FDNY received a 911 call reporting a fire in the rear of the house at 40-34 78th Street at 3:45 p.m. on June 2. Twenty-one units were dispatched to the scene on the block between Roosevelt Avenue and Elmhurst Hospital on 41st Avenue with 79 firefighters and EMS personnel.

EMS transported four civilians to Elmhurst Hospital, where they were listed in stable condition. A fifth civilian received medical attention at the scene. The fire was brought under control at 4:43 p.m. FDNY fire marshals will determine the cause.

An MTA spokesman said the fire did not impact 7 train service.

The American Red Cross registered five adults and three children for emergency assistance, such as financial aid and a safe place to stay while they begin to recover.

A Red Cross casework team will meet with the family to discuss recovery roadblocks and connect them with government and community partners to help with longer-term recovery needs.
