Construction completed on Forte Preparatory High School in Elmhurst

Standing six stories tall, the school features 59,000 square feet of classroom and recreational space for up to 560 students, who will range from 9th to 12th grade.

In addition to the classrooms and large rooftop recreational space, other notable features of the school include a media center, an indoor gymnasium with a regulation high school basketball court, a cafeteria, dedicated spaces for the arts, teachers’ lounges and an outdoor terrace.

Student orientations are currently taking place through Thursday, Sept. 3. The first school year at Forte Preparatory High School will kick off on Tuesday, Sept. 8.

The school is within close proximity to the Grand Avenue-Newtown subway station, which provides service for the E, F, M and R trains, as well as bus stops for the Q58, Q59, Q60 and Q98 lines.

The school building has a facade composed of an insulated metal panel rainscreen, shaded in bright yellow, green and gray. The main entrance is on the northwest corner of the property, under a canopy that bears the name of the school. The building’s varied fenestration features narrow windows on the ground floor and a wide uniform grid from the second through fourth floors. A bulkhead rises against the line wall on the southern part of the structure.

Prior to the construction of Forte Preparatory High School, 78-02 Queens Blvd. was occupied by a surface-level parking lot.
