The Italian Charities of America sponsored an evening of free entertainment from singer Amanda Pascali and her backup duo of musicians, Addison Freeman and Gabriele Bazza, on Saturday, March 14, at the organization’s headquarters, located at 83-20 Queens Blvd. in Elmhurst.

A packed house of appreciative listeners enjoyed Pascali’s performance. Sicilian and Italian music was played at the event.

Pascali is a bilingual singer and songwriter. Her music is meant to speak to the experiences of growing up a first-generation American. She has garnered hundreds of thousands of fans after her songs went viral on social media.

Multiple organizations have honored Pascali for her songwriting and poetry. These include the Calandra Institute in New York City, the Lions Club International in Sicily, the Kerrville Folk Festival, the Houston Arts Alliance, the Mid-America Arts Alliance and more.

A Fulbright Fellow, Pascali created “To Sing and Recount,” which is a project involving translating and revitalizing folk songs written in Sicilian. Another one of her projects, an archival reinterpretation and translation, known as “Sing Me Home,” is dedicated to re-recording and reimagining traditional folk songs from displaced, working-class, marginalized and immigrant communities in America and Italy.
